Where’s Your Work

Senior Pastor David Rose takes us through Acts 2 and Ephesians 4, challenging us to consider our role within the church and our calling as members of the body of Christ. He reminds us that while our identity is rooted in Christ, our belonging is found in the church, where we grow, serve, and worship together.

Pastor David highlights five key purposes of the church: discipleship, fellowship, worship, ministry, and evangelism. Drawing from the example of the early church in Acts 2, we see how their devotion to one another and to God’s mission led to spiritual growth and an outpouring of love and unity. Ephesians 4 teaches us how to live out that example.

The Gospel

The Gospel is the good news that Jesus Christ, the Son of God, came into the world to save sinners (1 Timothy 1:15). As Pastor David explained, our identity, belonging, and purpose are all rooted in Christ and His work on our behalf.

Our greatest problem is sin—our rebellion against God—which separates us from Him and leaves us spiritually dead (Ephesians 2:1-3). We cannot rescue ourselves, no matter how much we try to work for salvation or define our purpose apart from God. But God, in His love and mercy, sent Christ to live the perfect, sinless life that we couldn’t live (2 Corinthians 5:21). He died on the cross, bearing the punishment for our sins, and rose from the dead, defeating sin, death, and the grave (1 Corinthians 15:3-4).

The Gospel transforms us. When we repent of our sins and trust in Christ, we are forgiven, made new, and adopted into God’s family (Ephesians 2:4-5; John 1:12-13). This identity is unshakable—Christ’s finished work declares that we are “enough” in Him. But the Gospel does more than save us; it also calls us into a body of believers, the church, where we belong and grow. That’s what Pastor David meant when he said, “You will only find exactly who you are as you walk with Christ… and you belong with the body of Christ.”

Through the Gospel, we are equipped and empowered to display Christ’s love to the world (Ephesians 4:12-16). The early church in Acts 2 shows us what this Gospel-transformed life looks like—devotion to God, sacrificial love for one another, and a witness that draws others to salvation.

This Gospel reminds us that our work in the church is not a way to earn favor with God, but a response to the grace He has already shown us through Christ. By His Spirit, we live out this Gospel, bringing hope to a broken world and glorifying our faithful Savior.
