Praying for Those in Addiction

Praying for those in addiction

For those struggling with addiction and past trauma

This prayer guide is designed to help you approach God with honesty, hope, and faith. Whether you’re battling addiction yourself or supporting someone who is, these prayer points will guide you to lean on His strength and find healing in Christ. Remember, no matter where you are in your journey, God’s grace is sufficient, and His power is made perfect in our weakness.

Prayer guide

Let’s pray specifically:

  • Thank God that addiction exposes our innate human brokenness and need for a Savior. Pray it humbles and drives hearts to Christ alone.
  • Thank God that in Christ, old patterns of sin can be broken. Pray the Holy Spirit gives power to walk in newness of life.
  • Ask that past hurts or family pain not define identity but point to the need for Christ as Redeemer.
  • Pray Scripture’s truth about being fearfully and wonderfully made sinks deep, restoring dignity and correcting the lies of abuse.
  • Ask Him to drive the hope of the Gospel deep within hearts, especially in times of discouragement or temptation.
  • Give thanks that Christ understands every pain (Hebrews 4:15) and comes to heal and set free (Luke 4:18)
  • Pray that time at His feet and in His word would help reframe the past (Genesis 50:20).
  • Ask for wisdom and perseverance for counselors, sponsors and family walking alongside in love and accountability.
  • Thank Him that by His grace, the wounded places in our lives can become points of ministry (2 Corinthians 1:3-4).

May the cross remind us all that there is no condemnation for those in Christ Jesus. Our God specializes in taking the ruin of the past and crafting vessels of mercy.

Celebrate Recovery

If you struggle with addiction, we would love for you to join us at Celebrate Recovery. Celebrate Recovery helps people struggling with addictive habits, codependency, childhood hurts, and more. It’s totally informal so come as you are. There are no “shoulds” and no judgment- just honesty and hope in Christ who repairs what’s broken and makes all things new (Psalm 147:3; 2 Cor 5:17).
