Paid childcare workers are responsible for providing care and teaching children during Sunday services, Wednesday programs, Parents’ Night Out, and other church events as needed. Workers should have a basic understanding of the developmental stages of preschool-aged children and must be able to communicate with parents and co-workers in a professional, compassionate, and loving manner.

Responsibilities

  • Be in the room 15 minutes before the event starts.
  • Ensure a worker is in the childcare room at all times; no child should ever be left alone.
  • Maintain a positive attitude when interacting with parents and children.
  • Create a loving atmosphere and provide for each child's needs.
  • Keep a moderate voice level while caring for children.
  • Actively engage with the children, not just supervise.
  • Keep baby beds changed, toys sterilized, the room clean, and supplies organized.
  • Teach children proper bathroom procedures (flushing, handwashing, wiping).
  • Never use physical punishment or verbal abuse as discipline.
  • Ensure all children's belongings are marked, and they receive their items upon leaving.
  • Be consistent with room rules and teach children the proper use of room items.
  • Set a good example; avoid saying or doing anything inappropriate for children.
  • Only release children to parents or approved adults, never to another child.
  • Direct complaints to the Childcare Coordinator, not coworkers.
  • Follow the work schedule set by the Childcare Coordinator and notify them in advance if unavailable to work.
  • Be prepared to work in any area as requested by the Childcare Coordinator. If not needed for scheduled work, you may leave 30 minutes after the event starts and will be paid for two (2) hours of work.

Requirements

  • New Testament “born again” Christian
  • A member of this church or a church of like faith and beliefs
  • Desire to develop and nurture positive relationships with children, parents and co-workers
  • Willing to follow all church preschool policies
