It’s Never Too Late

91 year old Dale Bernard explains why it is never too late to follow Christ in believers’ baptism.

[Transcript]

Good morning. My name is Dale Bernard. I’m 91 years old and I will be 91 this month, September 28. But I’ve been in Lake Charles for, oh, 60 years or so. I belong to Trinity for 40 some odd years. When I moved to Lake Charles in the fifties, I moved on Common Street, and I lived right down the street from another Baptist church, which my wife and I and three children attended.

And we enjoyed the fellowship there. But then as my children got older, they began to run around with friends from Trinity and Trinity had such a good youth program. And I told my wife, If our children are going to Trinity, maybe we need to belong to Trinity. So after praying about it and thinking about it, we decided to move our letter from this other Baptist church to Trinity.

And it’s been over 40 years that we’ve been at Trinity, but we’ve enjoyed every bit of it. And then recently it was time for the revival. And every Sunday I get this little bulletin that these nice ladies hand out at the door. And I think this is brother Steve James’s motto: do you know? Do you really know?

Do you know? And I’ve been thinking about that and on our church bulletin I see where you can text in for information. I’m 91. I do not text. I receive texts but I’ve been… number two in our bulletin says, “I’ve been saved but not baptized.” And that struck a note with me that says, “I believe, Dale, this is God telling you – you need to do what Brother Steve said, and get baptized and find out.

You don’t have to worry if you know/do you know. If you get… you’ve accepted Christ before. And now that I’ll be… I will be baptized today then. I know that I know that I know. So I’ve really enjoyed being at Trinity for over 40 years and and enjoy all the services. Everybody is so friendly.

Trinity is doing so many things in the community that other churches don’t do. They’re attracting people here. It really is a wonderful place to go. Today I’m taking my next step and I will be baptized today. Thank you. Jesus.

[Pastor Steve James]

I got you. Good. This is my long time friend, Dale Benard. You heard his story, his testimony. He’s here on week 47, I think, of continuous baptisms here at Trinity Baptist. I love what he says, “I know that I know that I know. But now that I know, I need to go and follow in believers’ baptism.” So he’s standing here letting you know that he wants to make that public profession of faith, that outward sign of that inward commitment that he has in Jesus Christ.

And so, Dale, upon your public profession of faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, by the authority of this church, I baptize you, my brother, in the name of the Father, the Son, the Holy Spirit. Buried as He was buried, raised to walk in newness of life. Let me help you up.

Do you know Christ?

If the answer to that question is “no” or “I’m not sure,” reach out to us. We would love to talk with you more about Christ and who He is.
