The Minister to Children is a full-time position called by the church for the purpose of administering a program of discipleship, evangelism, parenting, and marriage ministry to families with children from birth to fifth grade. He will be a member of the Professional Ministerial Staff and share with the staff in the total ministry of the church including hospital visitation, evangelistic visitation, prospect outreach, and other administrative duties as needed.

Supervises: Ministry Assistant, Children’s Coordinator, Children’s Sunday Morning Worship Team, and Trinity Kids’ Preschool Director.

Responsibilities

  • Cooperate with the Executive Pastor of Ministries to implement an effective Sunday Morning Bible Study ministry with the parents through the SMBS classes. This includes teacher recruitment, training, and retention along with coordination of curriculum, outreach, and inreach.
  • Ensure the curriculum used in all instances in Children’s Ministry is relevant, age-appropriate, biblical and reaching the needs of the target audience.
  • Nurture children’s spiritual development through relationships, creative teaching, and programming at all scheduled activities.
  • Provide curriculum that engages children to live out their faith.
  • Recruit, train, motivate, encourage and screen volunteers.
  • Organize training and planning sessions for children’s workers.
  • Coordinate children’s programs for Sunday nights, Wednesday nights, summer, and special events as needed.
  • Provide ministry opportunities that are relevant, age appropriate, biblical and reaching the need of the audience.
  • Coordinate outreach evangelism to children and their families. This includes baptism counseling for parents and “next step” classes. This person holds the primary responsibility to assimilate prospects and new members into the church from families with children.
  • Help children to identify their spiritual gifts and use them to spread the gospel.
  • Coordinate programming and curriculum that encourages discipleship for children as they grow in their faith.
  • Train children how to share their faith and counsel others.
  • Be community outreach/visitor outreach/missions minded.
  • Partner with parents to influence spiritual development of their children.
  • Develop and coordinate the Family Point ministry. Resource families with parenting and marriage enrichment resources. This includes weekly communication through electronic means, conferences, specialized classes, weekend events, and any other resources that are deemed worthy by the ministerial staff.
  • Ensure all areas of ministry are using all the tools and resources to implement partnership between church and parents.
  • Make available opportunities to meet with and encourage parents to nurture their child’s faith.
  • Recommend and implement new ministries deemed necessary to reach and disciple children and their families.
  • Be available to counsel and pray with children and families regarding spiritual matters.
  • Make hospital visits to children and those who volunteer in the Children’s Ministry.
  • Pray for the children, their families, and volunteers.
  • Participate in other functions as assigned by the Senior Pastor and/or Executive Pastor of Ministries.
  • Supervise the overall ministry to children k-5th grade. This will include families of children. Work through and with the Children’s coordinator to accomplish such things.
  • Keep the content of the website and social media for the related family ministries up-to-date and relevant.
  • Communicate with staff, ministry team, and congregation.
  • Work continually with the Executive Pastor of Ministries to evaluate the ministry to families and outreach efforts to families of the Lake Area.
  • Prepare and oversee budgets for children’s programs.
  • Supervise children’s ministry associate staff.
  • Work with the Children’s coordinator for the development of and implementation of ongoing yearly family events. These include but are not limited to Vacation Bible School, Spring events (such as Easter fest), pre-teen camp, Winshape camp, and other events that are deemed beneficial by the ministry staff.
  • Work with the Director of the Trinity Center to build a “bridge” between the children and family ministries and on-going Trinity Center ministries and activities. Take an active role in the implementation of Upward ministries and connecting participants to the church.
  • Evaluate the work of the Children’s Coordinator, Sunday morning worship team, and Trinity Kids Preschool director. Recommend training and equipping for leaders and all faculty, staff, and volunteers.
  • Continue education by staying abreast of ongoing issues in children and parenting ministry.
  • Work with the Student Minister to allow for a smooth transition from Children’s to Student Ministry.
